Russia and the EU are preparing seven cross-border cooperation programs for 2021-2027
Russia and the EU, despite the crisis in bilateral relations, are preparing for the implementation of seven new practical programs for cross-border cooperation for the years 2021-2027. This was announced to reporters by Russia’s Permanent Representative to the EU Vladimir Chizhov on Monday, speaking on the sidelines of a conference on cross-border cooperation between Russia and the EU, held in Brussels in the EU Committee of Regions.
“Our relations with the EU at any time, even in the current crisis, did not stop completely. Cooperation between the Committee of the Regions and relevant Russian structures continued, as well as the implementation of cross-border cooperation programs,” he said.
“A new generation of these programs is currently being discussed for the period 2021-2027, that is, the future long-term financial plan of the EU. There are already seven of these programs. And several European Union countries and, accordingly, several Russian regions of the North-West bordering the European Union are involved. when the European Union introduced certain unilateral restrictive measures against Russia, even those decisions specifically stipulated that they did not apply to cross-border cooperation, that is, this area of our interaction was special it was preserved by agreement of the parties, “the Russian permanent representative stressed.
Russia is interested in developing cross-border partnerships with EU states in the Black Sea region.
“We are interested in developing cross-border cooperation with the EU countries and in the Black Sea region. The basis for this could be the“ Joint Maritime Agenda for the Black Sea ”adopted on May 21, 2019 in Bucharest at the high-level meeting of the Black Sea countries and Moldova, which can be jointly decided by coastal states, “said Chizhov.
