Growth in food transportation
On the Southeast Highway in the I quarter of 2020, a significant increase in the loading of food products and grain was noted.
According to the South-Eastern Railway corporate communications service, in March, over 65 thousand tons of sugar were loaded at railway stations located within the Michurinsky region of the road. This is 81% higher than the same period last year and 25% more than in February this year.
A similar situation has developed at the stations of the South-Eastern Railway located on the territory of the Belgorod region. In March, 28.2 thousand tons of sugar were loaded here. And this is 139% higher than last year – 11.8 thousand tons.
Southeastern countries recorded an increase in demand for sugar transportation throughout the entire I quarter of 2020. From January to March, only in the Belgorod region did South-East send 48.6 thousand tons to consumers, including 6 thousand tons for export, which is more than 2 times higher than in 2019 – 22 thousand tons.
It is possible that the increase in sugar loading on the railway is related to the external economic situation.
The Vperyod newspaper has already said that in March and April the Dobrinsky Sugar Plant (Lipetsk Region) planned to export 50,000 tons of raw sugar via the Plavitsa station for export by rail (Mutually Beneficial Relations, No. 51 dated March 24, 2020).
In accordance with the contract, the plant has already shipped 10 thousand tons in February and 29 thousand tons in March. Another 11 thousand tons are planned for April. The enterprise, which is part of a large foreign holding, received an additional contract for them at the beginning of this year. Moreover, as noted at the plant, in addition to this contract, the company may receive another one, comparable in volume.
The dynamics of grain loading on the Southeast Railway has also improved. According to current information, in the first quarter of 2020, almost 200 thousand tons of grain were loaded at stations located in the Belgorod Region, including 56 thousand tons were sent for export. Only in March, the road sent 70.6 thousand tons from here, 24.4 thousand tons of them to the ports of Novorossiysk. In the first quarter of 2019, 105 thousand tons of grain were shipped, that is, the loading growth amounted to 90%.
In the service of corporate communications of the South-Eastern Railway note:
“In the conditions of an unfavorable epidemiological situation, railroad workers uninterruptedly provide rolling stock according to the requests of shippers, take measures to increase the throughput capacity of stations.”
