Cargo transportation between Russia and Belarus in 2019 fell by 18%

By the end of 2019, it is planned to transfer 58 million tons of cargo between Russia and Belarus. In 2018, 70 million tons were transported, in 2017 – 62 million tons, cargo transportation fell by 18% this year, follows from the report of the head of the Belarusian Railway Vladimir Morozov, the data was announced at the round table “The transit potential of the Republic of Belarus in providing transportation of Russian foreign trade cargo by rail ”, held in Moscow.

Recall that Russian Railways are the most important strategic partner of the Belarusian Railway in the freight transportation market. Russia accounts for 88% of transit traffic through Belarus, 61% of import and 22% of export.

According to the results of work for 10 months of 2019, the transportation of goods in the message of the Republic of Belarus – Russia amounted to 48 million tons, or 82.4% compared to the same period of 2018, including transit – 29.2 million tons (80.2% by 2018 .), export from the Republic of Belarus to the Russian Federation – 9.7 million tons (82.2%), import from the Russian Federation to the Republic of Belarus – 9.1 million tons (90.4%). By the end of 2019, it is planned to transfer 58 million tons of cargo between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus, in 2018 70 million tons were transported, and in 2017 – 62 million tons.
“This year showed a trend in the decline in cargo transportation between Russia and Belarus, the main volume is coal, which we lost 5.5 million tons, a decrease of 23%, the main reason is the redistribution of flows, mainly towards the port of Ust-Luga. Nevertheless, we see that there remains a need for the transportation of coal at ground checkpoints. We must create both technical and documentation capabilities for shippers, ”said V. Morozov.
